Local School Committee - Election for Horn Park Parent Governor
Our parent Governor Esther Smith has made the decision to resign from her role as Parent Governor, we thank her for her valued contribution during her time. Due to this, this we have a vacancy in our Horn Park Local School Committee for a Parent Governor.
If you wish to seek nomination as an elected Parent Governor, please collect a nomination form from the school office, or can be printed from the attachment below. This form should be completed, with the accompanying personal statement of no more than 150 words, and returned to the Head Teacher or the school office no later than 3.30pm on 4th April 2025.
Outlined below is some general information on the role of a Parent Governor within the local school committee.
The Local School Committee is responsible for providing confident and strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational performance.
The Local School Committee is passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
The role of a parent governor
As a parent governor, you will work with the Local School Committee to make sure it effectively carries out the duties referred to above. You will also play a vital role in bringing a parental perspective to the Local School Committee, but you are not there to speak ‘on behalf’ of the parent body.
To be a parent governor you should have:
A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
The specific skills required to make sure the Local School Committee delivers effective governance
Expectations of Governors
Governors are expected to:
make full efforts to attend all meetings and where this is not possible, explain in advance why they are unable to do so
involve themselves actively in the work of the Local School Committee, and accept their fair share of responsibilities
maintain confidentiality
attend induction and training as required

If we receive more applications than there are vacancies, a secret ballot will be carried out. We will inform you closer to the time if we have to do this.

Where the information may be stored (eg securely in school, electronic systems, paper files)
Who has access to this (eg access restricted, not shared with third parties outside of the school)
How long retained for (for duration of appointment process, if retained following appointment of successful candidate, how long for)
How will be destroyed (permanently deleted from electronic systems, paper copies shredded)

Now in its seventh year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–18 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Blackheath Halls are inviting budding musicians aged 8 to 18 years to their first Young Musicians Day on Saturday 1st February at 10am - 5.30pm.
This is a free event at which children can try out the different (free) ongoing music activities that Blackheath Halls offer, as well as some other local opportunities such as steel pans. With a variety of different sessions on offer, you can sign up to those you are interested in coming to.
The whole day is free of charge, but because spaces are limited, advanced sign-up is required to avoid disappointment. Please sign-up via this form.
