"Securing good attendance is not the preserve of any individual. It is the partnership and commitment of all school staff, parents and governors in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality for all."
The new government have been very clear in their intention to improve school attendance as a national priority. This has resulted in the alignment of policy nationally, in particular in relation to the issuing of penalty notices by local authorities.
Below is the ‘Parents Guide for Penalty Notice Changes’ shared by Greenwich, as part of the national strategy. It details that there will be a single consistent national threshold for when a penalty notice must be considered by all schools in England. This equates to 10 sessions (5 days) of unauthorised absence, within a rolling 10 school week period.
Unauthorised absence includes, but is not limited to, the following:
term time holidays
days off for a birthday or family celebration
regular days of unexplained lateness, resulting in a child receiving a ‘U’ code (arriving after 9:30am)
parent unwell and unable to bring child to school
bad weather
feeling tired
Please see our attendance leaflet below for further details and advice on how to develop good attendance habits.

We are excited to announce that the date of our Sports Day will be Monday 1st July and will take place in the park behind the school.
The times of this event will be:
Nursery AM, 30 hours and Sycamores: 10am – 11am
Nursery PM and 30 hours: 1.30pm – 2.30pm
We would love for you to come and watch and support your children, so please meet us at the school office at 9.45am or 1.15pm to accompany us on our walk over. Parents of Nursery 30 hours are welcome to either session. Nursery children can be taken home after the event has finished.
We are very excited to announce that this year, Sports Day will be held again at Sutcliffe Park, taking place on Friday 28th June.
We would like to invite you to attend and share in the day’s events. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to be able to use the centre’s brilliant facilities and for the Horn Park community to come together to celebrate and participate in the day.
Children will attend school as normal and walk to Sutcliffe Park after registration ready for a 10:00am start. If any adults are able to walk down with their child’s class to the sports centre, it would be much appreciated; please let their class teacher know.
We will aim to finish the final events by 12:45pm and then stay on site for lunch. After lunch, parents are welcome to take their child/children home directly from Sutcliffe Park. Children will not be allowed to walk home from Sutcliffe Park alone and any children whose parents are not attending will walk back to school to end the day as normal.
Please note, upon arrival, all attendees will enter the sports day site through the side entrance shown on the map. There will be a member of staff there to meet you. Parking at the sports centre is very limited, so we advise arriving on foot.
Please ensure your child comes fully prepared for the day. This includes coming to school in appropriate PE kit and footwear (there will not be time to change before we leave), sun cream and sun hats, packed lunch, and plenty of water.
The entire site has a strict no smoking policy, therefore you would need to leave the premises to do so.
